Changes to your shopping experience, that’s what you may see the next time you go to Castleton Square Mall. Managers there are among mall managers across the country who met Tuesday to talk about new security policies after a wave of mall fights broke out on the day after Christmas. Indianapolis Metro Police say the fight at Castleton Square Mall started over a teenage boy. One young man and six young women were arrested and now face charges over that incident.

Indy Metro Police also say this is the week some thieves do their own Christmas shopping. IMPD commanders are reminding people to break down boxes or at least make sure they’re buried so you don’t become a target.  Officers say there’s no need to make your trash an advertisement for the stuff you now have in your house, like that brand new big screen TV with the surround sound system attached.

Fire investigators are blaming arson as the cause of an apartment fire that displaced more than two dozen people Tuesday morning at the Keystone North Apartments. That blaze caused an estimated $80,000 in damage. Firefighters had to rescue seven people, including a baby, from a third floor unit.  Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Crime Stoppers 317-262-TIPS.

Indianapolis’ other major car event of the year is open for business this week. The 103rd annual Indianapolis Auto Show opened on Monday. Car buffs are getting a look at the new models and the soon-to-be new models. Organizers say 40 automakers have something to display.  About 50,000 people are expected to turn out to the Indiana Convention Center downtown before it ends on January 1.

Speaking of cars…if you drive a car here in Indiana, you need to know that Indiana is one of several states that will see a tax increase on gas in 2017. WISH-TV is reporting Indiana is just one of seven states that are hiking gas taxes on January 1. Right now our state gas tax is 18 cents a-gallon. The increase will bring it up to 8 to 10 cents more. So if you’re filling up on an average of once a week, that’s about $12 to $14 more per month. The tax will go to improve roads, bridges, and add lanes where needed.

Cinnabon is getting backlash for finding humor in the death of actress/author Carrie Fisher. Cinnabon tweeted a picture of Princess Leia’s profile drawn in a pile of flour, with a cinnamon roll replacing her iconic hair bun. The tweet read, “RIP Carrie Fisher, you’ll always have the best buns in the galaxy.” The tweet was quickly deleted from Cinnabon’s account after Twitter users complained that it was tasteless.

They replaced that tweet with this one:

Secretary of State John Kerry will give a speech on Wednesday on the peace process in the Middle East.  State Department spokesman Mark Toner says Kerry will lay out a comprehensive vision for how conflict in the region can be resolved. Toner says Kerry will touch on the strained relationship between Israel and the U.S. following the UN resolution condemning Israeli settlement activity. The U.S. abstained from the vote, and refused to use its veto against the resolution.

Turkey and Russia have an agreement for a ceasefire in Syria. Sources tell Turkey’s Anadolu news agency the two countries, which back opposite sides in the Syrian civil war, will try to put the plan into effect by midnight. If it holds, peace talks will be held soon in Kazakhstan.

Forty-four ISIS terrorists are reported dead after a Turkish military operation Wednesday in northern Syria.  More than 100 others were wounded.  In Afghanistan, another three ISIS members were killed by a U.S. drone strike in the eastern part of the country.

Donations are up at Planned Parenthood since the presidential election. The British newspaper “The Guardian” reports the group has raked in more than 300,000 donations over the past six weeks. That’s 40-times the normal number. Many of those donations were made in the name of Indiana Governor and Vice-President-elect Mike Pence.

A former Bush adviser is being tapped by the Trump team to help fight cyber attacks. Thomas Bossert was named by the President-elect to be the assistant for homeland security and terrorism. He served as deputy homeland security adviser in the Bush administration. Trump officials say his focus will be on cybersecurity.

Sports…

The Pacers will have an opportunity to snap their three-game slide when they visit the Washington Wizards Wednesday night. Indy’s last victory was against the Wizards at Bankers Life Fieldhouse nine days ago. Tip off will be 7 p.m. Eastern at the Verizon Center.

Tom Allen will make his debut as head coach also on Wednesday night as the Hoosiers take on number-19 Utah at the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara. Allen took over following the resignation of Kevin Wilson earlier this month. Indiana became bowl eligible at 6-and-6 with its win over Purdue in the final game of the season. The Utes lost three of their final four games and enter play at 8-and-4. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. Eastern from Levi’s Stadium.
