Pile of Money

Indianapolis is going to spend more money on police and firefighters, and borrow to spend more on parks in the city’s newest budget. Indy’s City-County Council okayed the billion dollar budget Monday night. Most of the disagreement over the new spending plan deals with how the city will pay for the $50-million that Mayor Joe Hogsett wants to spend on infrastructure projects.

Six operating rooms at Community Hospital North are temporarily closed for air quality tests. The decision was made after discoloration was found on the ceiling tiles and walls of an operating room corridor. The health network says the rooms will remain closed until tests confirm there are no safety issues.

In a crime update from Fort Wayne…a confession. The northern Indiana mom charged with killing her kids says she gave them a choice whether to live or die. Then she killed them. Amber Pasztor admitted to her kids’ murder in an interview with WANE-TV on Monday. Pasztor is charged with murdering and kidnapping the children. She says she smothered her kids to send them to “a better place.” Pasztor also admitted to killing her neighbor. She hasn’t been charged in that case.

Governor Mike Pence says he’s in no way considering dropping off the GOP ticket with presidential nominee Donald Trump. Pence told CNN’s “New Day,” he was offended by Trump’s comments recorded in a recently revealed 2005 video hot mic tape, but his position in the campaign has not changed. Pence said Trump’s remarks are indefensible. Trump apologized after the firestorm over the tape began, adding, “if anyone was offended” and deflecting to the alleged behaviors of his democratic opponent’s husband, former President Bill Clinton. Pence said he believes his running mate is sincere in showing regret over the incident. He called being nominated as Trump’s running mate the “greatest honor” of his life.

For the third day in a row the Black Lives Matter movement...

A clash between protesters and an aggressive driver has one Indiana college campus buzzing. This happened Monday night in Bloomington between ‘Black Lives Matter’ protesters at a demonstration and a motorist who drove through their crowd, according to various media reports. Indiana University police say that motorist’s car windshield was broken and other property was reportedly damaged by the protestors during a march after that demonstration. The demonstration was put on by the students against state violence group to remember the lives of 5 men and one teen who were killed by police officers. No one was hurt or arrested.

A popular U.S. Supreme Court Justice, known by many in our community as ‘The Notorious RBG,’ is weighing in on athletes kneeling during the national anthem. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says it’s “dumb and disrespectful.” Ginsburg told Yahoo News’ Katie Couric, “it’s a terrible thing to do,” but she wouldn’t arrest anyone for doing it. The police misconduct and racial inequality protest helmed by San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick is at the heart of her comments. Justice Ginsburg says there are no laws against being arrogant and stupid, but takes issue with “the point of view they are expressing when they” kneel.

This year’s presidential campaign has been an historic one and one Florida senator expects it will continue to be even after the votes are counted. Democratic Senator Bill Nelson predicts that Hillary Clinton will beat Donald Trump, but that Trump won’t concede. He said in Orlando on Monday that it’ll be the first time in history the loser does not give credibility to the government’s ability to function. Nelson also said he has never seen politics more ideologically divided.

House Speaker Paul Ryan is telling his fellow House Republicans that he won’t defend GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. He said this during an urgent conference call among them. Ryan also said he will not campaign for Trump and will instead spend the next month working to retain the Republican majority in Congress. Trump has been under fire for making vulgar remarks about women in 2005 to television show host Billy Bush.

It appears one of the many Republicans who ran for the party’s presidential nomination gave Hillary Clinton a sense of deja vu. In new emails released by WikiLeaks, Clinton’s staff said Florida Senator Marco Rubio reminded them of Barack Obama in 2008. The emails also show Clinton’s campaign expected Rubio or former Governor Jeb Bush to be the Republican nominee. We now know how wrong they were.

You may want to check your fridge before you stick this in your kid’s lunchbox. Kraft Heinz is recalling over 900-pounds of Lunchables due to misbranding and undeclared allergens on the labels. The Food Safety and Inspection Service says the “Lunchables Ham and American Cracker Stackers,” contain wheat and soy which are not on the label. The company says the products were given the wrong labels accidentally. The USDA weighed-in. They said as of Monday morning, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the product.

In Sports…

The short-handed secondary of the Indianapolis Colts has received another blow. Slot cornerback Darius Butler suffered a fractured finger in Sunday’s win over the Bears and will require surgery. He has already missed two games this year with a hamstring injury. Colts Coach Chuck Pagano told reporters Monday that Butler’s status is in question for Sunday’s road game in Houston against the Texans.

Indianapolis Weather…

Cloudy skies Tuesday morning. Partly cloudy during the afternoon. Temps will be a little warmer with a High of 74 degrees.
