A former Temple University police officer enlisted the help of a friend to allegedly beat his 24-year-old girlfriend to death in front of her two young daughters in a horrific attack that police say was motivated by her refusal ‘to submit,’ according to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Aaron Wright, 47, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, conspiracy to commit murder, and abuse of a corpse for the gruesome death of his girlfriend, 24-year-old Joyce Quaweay. Wright, who was dismissed from the police force in 2012, allegedly called on his roommate, Marquis Robinson, 41, to help him reportedly beat her. Robinson, who was also a Temple University officer, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated assault and abuse of a corpse.

According to the Inquirer, the “extremely controlling” Wright became enraged when Quaweay was not “submissive” enough. Police say he stripped her naked, handcuffed her to a bench and then beat her death with his fists and a baton. Robinson allegedly restrained her and contorted her body so that Wright could beat her, reportedly even after her death.

The violent ordeal reportedly happened in front of Quaweay’s 10-month-old and two-year-old daughters with Wright, as well as two of his other children, aged 8 and 10.

When Robinson’s girlfriend allegedly walked in on the beating, she called the police. The two men were arrested after.

Quaweay died at the scene, police said.

Friends were reportedly unaware that she was in an abusive relationship and told the Inquirer that they wished they had known so they could have helped her.
