Shortcake, ice cream, whipped topping and oh yes…plenty of strawberries are the featured items at an annual tradition that’s being held today in downtown Indy. The Christ Church Cathedral’s annual Strawberry Festival is celebrating its 51st year on Monument Circle today with those homemade shortcake biscuits made by the members of the church. The event begins this morning at 9 a.m. with live entertainment starting at 10 a.m. It runs until 6 p.m. or until the goodies run out. The “Works” which includes all of the items is $7. A la carte items are $2. The annual fundraiser is free to attend, however the sale of the desserts is what helps the women’s auxiliary of the church raise money to support non-profit groups. The ‘Strawberry Fest’ is another of the Spring events in the city that ushers in Summer. The Indianapolis Star reports last year’s event raised $63,000 that helped 31 groups. The church’s website says the funds are distributed through Strawberry Festival Grants whose primary focus is on women and children two times a year. However they will consider all human needs projects.
