Less than two weeks after her 31st birthday, Sierra Shields went missing. The personable flight attendant was last seen walking out of La Guardia airport on January 14th.

Her roommates, who referred to their friend as “a breath of life” reported that Sierra had left her wallet and cell phone at home on the day of her disappearance but they assumed she was simply in a rush to get to work.

Sierra’s supervisor, who was the last person to speak with her shared,  “She wasn’t quite herself [that day.] It seemed like something was bothering her.”

According to NewsOne, friends and family of the Chicago native said Sierra loved being in New York where she’s lived for the past four years.

She’s an alumnae of Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Michigan. After graduation, Sierra knew that she didn’t want a “desk job” so she enjoyed the freedom of literally being in the air as a flight attendant for Delta and United.

Her father, Chris Shields most recently saw his daughter over the Christmas holidays where she enjoyed spending time with her four siblings in the Chicago suburbs.

Sierra is currently studying for her master’s in divinity. Initially, she thought returning to school with interfere with her full time job but her family encouraged her to pursue her passion to be of service to others.

“Everyone who knew her was affected by her positive outlook. She had a heart for those who were hurting and were in the pain. Which is why she wanted to do something in ministry,” said Chris.

The family is appreciative for the outpouring of love and support that they’ve received at this precarious time.

“There’s been a lot of people who were friends of Sierra who have been very vigorous about posting and having their friends post to keep her name out there, keep her face out there, in the hopes that someone will see her so that we can bring her back home,” Chris said in an interview with People Magazine.

The interview also sheds light on Sierra’s selfless nature and commitment to community service:

Her mother, Donna Shields, says that Sierra loves people and is an avid volunteer at a facility for senior citizens near her home in Astoria, Queens. After she went missing, Chris says the seniors whose lives were touched by Sierra braved the January cold to hand out flyers around their neighborhood.

“She’s a person that people have felt blessed to be in a relationship with,” Chris adds.

The NYPD has released a brief statement regarding their search, “We continue to work vigilantly with the authorities leading the investigation to find Sierra Shields, and we remain steadfast until she is found.”

The family is imploring social media to help spread the word about Sierra’s disappearance through a Find Sierra Shields Facebook page. A Crowd Rise campaign has also been set up where funds can be donated to help expand the scope of the search.

On the 14th, Sierra was last seen wearing her navy blue flight attendant’s uniform: a knee-length dress with long sleeves. She’s 5’6″ tall, 160 pounds and has medium length black hair and brown eyes.

If you have any information on Sierra’s possible whereabouts, contact the New York Police Department Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
