Food related illness can be scary at anytime, but when it happens at a holiday that’s synonymous with eating–like Thanksgiving–it really can throw a wrench into what’s on the planned holiday menu. So here’s an update on the latest E.coli outbreak that may have impacted your ‘Turkey Day’ appetizer tray. The E. coli outbreak linked to a chicken salad sold at Costco has been traced to produce used in the salad. At least 19 people who ate Costco’s rotisserie chicken salad became sick, with five of them having to be hospitalized. A celery-and-onion mix made by California’s Taylor Farms has tested positive for E. coli, causing the company to recall the product. The outbreak has affected people in Montana, Utah, Colorado, California, Missouri, Virginia and Washington state. No deaths have been reported. Costco said it stopped selling the chicken salad as soon as it was informed of the E. coli cases.
