Everyone has been wondering who the next James Bond will be, and there have been high hopes that he’d be someone black. Fans campaigned for Idris Elba to fill those martini glasses, but he quickly shot those requests. Then A$AP Rocky said he’d be perfect for the role, but, yeah, nah. Now, it’s reported that Selma‘s David Oyelowo will be the first man to play the illustrious role – but in audiobook form.

According to the Guardian, he will voice Bond in the audiobook Trigger Mortis, and he was personally asked by Ian Fleming‘s estate to tackle the role.

Describing himself as “very honoured”, Oyelowo said: “I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech.”

He added: “I was asked specifically by the Fleming estate, which is really special.”

There’s been more firsts for the talented actor. He was the first black actor to step into the role of Henry IV in a major Shakespearean theatrical production.

In addition to voicing Bond, he will be the voice of additional characters in the audiobook.

In other Oyelowo news, the British actor will be, once again, teaming up with his Selma director for a film about Hurricane Katrina.
