Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu is under doctors’ care in a hospital in South Africa after being unable to shake an infection. Tutu’s daughter expects her 83-year-old to be released from the hospital in Cape Town in the next few days. The archbishop won the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end apartheid in South Africa. The Desmond Tutu Center for Peace, Reconciliation and Global Justice is located here in Indianapolis as a partnership between Christian Theological Seminary and Butler University. Though Tutu has mostly stayed out of the spotlight in recent years, the iconic spiritual leader remains active in human rights causes and anti-poverty efforts. He last visited Indy in September 2013 delivering an address at Clowes Memorial Hall on Butler’s campus as a part of the festivities announcing and opening the Tutu Center.
