By now, we all know that Serena Williams has won her sixth Wimbledon singles title. Williams now has a total of twenty-two Grand Slam singles titles, compared to Maria Sharapova’s five Grand Slam singles titles. Williams beat Sharapova in the Wimbledon semi-finals match last Thursday, so why isn’t she as highly paid as Sharapova? Apparently Sharapova has more endorsements than Williams does, even though Williams is currently ranked the number one women’s singles player in the world. It is believed that Sharapova is more “desirable” to marketing companies based on her looks, and Williams gets overlooked due to racial stereotypes. Read more about the story here.
