Cynthia Layne-Photo3A “Jazz Celebration of Life” for Indianapolis R&B, neo-soul and jazz vocalist Cynthia Layne will be held on Saturday at Crown Hill Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.  

Layne, was one of the most popular and beloved singers in the city. Performing regularly at venues around town like the Jazz Kitchen, the Indy Arts Garden and a celebrated regular at the Indianapolis Jazz Fest, the Dayton, Ohio native shared her gifts with an international audience that descended on Indy for the Super Bowl on stage in the Super Bowl village.

While being a busy mom of one daughter, Nina, Layne successfully battled breast cancer in 2012 and became a faithful advocate of local cancer agency Little Red Door. Her cancer recurred in 2014 and she died on Sunday, Jan. 18.  Layne was 51.

Layne’s family, friends and the music community will gather to celebrate her life and spirit at Crown Hill Funeral Home, located at 700 West 38th Street.

Per a post by Layne’s family on her Facebook page, a funeral mass will be held for Layne in her hometown on Monday, Jan. 26, at St. Benedict Church, 519 Liscum Drive, Dayton, Ohio, 45427. Visitation is scheduled at 9 a.m. with service at 11 a.m.
