The Mozel Sanders Foundation’s Thanksgiving dinner program began as a way to give families a “hand up” – to provide a nutritious meal and bring families hope during the holidays. It began with a handful of volunteers who served 20 meals to the hungry in Indianapolis. Today, the foundation is well-known throughout Indiana as a leader in the fight against hunger.

In 2013, over 2,000 volunteers served over 40,000 meals from 45 locations. In 2013, the average cost per meal was $4.50. A contribution of $500 will allow them to feed 111 individuals; $1000 will allow them to feed 222; $2,000 will allow them to feed 444; and $5000 will allow them to feed 1,111. In 2013, the donations helped to purchase 15,000 lbs. of turkey, 10,000 lbs. of dressing, 2,000 cans of green beans, 1,200 gallons of gravy, 10,000 lbs. of apple crisp, 80,000 dinner rolls and much more.

100% of the individuals served are low-income, 70% are seniors, 75% are female and 80% are African American.
