Family and friends said goodbye to baseball legend Tony Gwynn over the weekend. About 200 people gathered Saturday at San Diego State for a private memorial service for the San Diego Padre Hall of Famer and SDSU baseball coach. Gwynn’s teammates over the years and representatives of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame and the Baseball Hall of Fame attended the service. Gwynn died last Monday at the age of 54 after battling salivary gland cancer for nearly four years. Petco Park is hosting a free public memorial to honor Gwynn on Thursday. Gwynn and his wife owned a home here in Central Indiana and were known to be strong supporters of both the Pacers and the Fever.
