Ever since VH1 aired “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” last fall, it’s been a battle brewing between the ladies of TLC, Perri “Pebbles” Reid, and VH1’s parent company Viacom.
In April,Pebbles filed a $40 million lawsuit against Viacom for portraying her “as a conniving and dishonest business woman who hoodwinked three innocent girls and exploited their talent for her own personal gain.”
Now, according to The Jasmine Brand, Viacom has fired back, requesting the lawsuit be dismissed. Viacom argues the situations portrayed in the movie are true, such as Pebbles choosing the group’s lawyers, turning down merchandise deals (when the girls were contractually supposed to have 100% control) and not giving TLC copies of their contracts, on which she withheld information from.
Pebbles also insisted she should receive an apology from Viacom, but according to the media company, they do “not believe that the movie was false and defamatory” and plan on continuing to promote and re-telecast the TLC movie.
All in all, Viacom is standing by their case that the movie is “true or substantially true,” and are hoping to get the suit dropped because of what they’re deeming are an accuracy of events.
