Love and Hip-Hop creator, Mona Scott-Young’s new reality show hasn’t even aired yet and it’s already has people ready to cancel it.
According to reports, Black Greek organizations have started an online petition to encourage those in charge to axe the upcoming reality show, “Sorority Sisters.” The united effort comes after a trailer for the upcoming series recently debuted online. Sororities featured in the clip include Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho.
The inclusion of the sororities resulted in the creation of the petition from representatives of those organizations to prevent “Sorority Sisters” from airing. Enacted by Reynoir Lewis, the MoveOn.org petition, looks to obtain 7,500 signatures reads as follows:
Stop the spread of ignorance and stereotyping of our beloved Black Greek letter organizations. Our founders amongst EVERY organization worked extremely hard to allow us to unite and flourish not only on college campuses, but as a people well beyond our college days, and Mona Scott-Young now threatens to demolish those aims and goals we all abide by.
So far, the petition, which was addressed to Viacom’s president and CEO Phillipe Dauman and President Barack Obama, has already collected nearly 6,000 signatures. At this time, there has been no response regarding the situation from Scott-Young nor any word from Viacom that “Sorority Sisters” has been cancelled.
