Jill Scott has been added to the cast of “Get On Up,” the James Brown biopic due next fall from Universal and Imagine Entertainment.
Chadwick Boseman will be playing James Brown in the film, which follows the singer from his humble beginnings all the way to stardom while recounting his battle with drug addiction, arrest, and financial ruin.
In a part that is being written specifically for her, Scott will play Brown’s wife.
Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Lennie James are among those cast in the production, which is to start shooting in November. The movie is set for an Oct. 17, 2014, release.
