For all of you that were crying when your beloved sweet treats were removed from the shelves last year, it looks like you will be getting some relief from your heart ache.
In November 2012, it seemed that the nation had a meltdown over the Hostess shutdown which led to consumers’ beloved Twinkies being removed from the shelves. But hope is on the way for those who have been missing the tasty cream stuffed yellow cakes. The company went belly up, but it seems they’ve been bailed out by a takeover of “new owners and a leaner structure” and they will have Twinkies and other Hostess favorites back on the shelves by July 15, according to the Huffington Post.
“A lot of impostor products have come to the market while Hostess has been off the shelves,” says Daren Metropoulos, a principal of the investment firm Metropoulos & Co., which teamed up with Apollo Global Management to buy a variety of Hostess snacks.
The restructuring has hopefully led to the rehiring of the tens of thousands of employees that lost their jobs last year after the unions failed to come to an agreement with Hostess. Metropoulos and Apollo Global purchased Twinkies and other cakes for $410 million and vow to reach more stores with their new plan.
