Police have told students in the nursing building, Emerson Hall and the Gatch Hall at IUPUI to evacuate. Armed officers have entered the buildings, which are south of Riley Hospital for Children.
The search is near the area of Michigan Street and Barnhill Drive where a man with a gun was reported earlier.
IUPUI Police Capt. Bill Abston said a female student was in the parking lot at Barnhill and Vermont Street at about 12:30 p.m.. He said she saw the man get out of a four-door green or grey sedan and hid behind her car, but lost sight of him.
Abston said another tip also came in that the man was seen at Blackford Street and Indiana Avenue, but police did not find him there.
IndyGo public transportation also announced several detours this afternoon involving routes 3, 37 and 50 redline westbound.
