Coach arrested on indecency charge
(Indianapolis) — A former Martinsville High School basketball coach has been arrested and charged with public indecency. According to police reports, Tim Wolf, 65, was found wearing no clothes while sitting in his car Sunday afternoon about 40 feet away from an Eagle Creek Park playground. Investigators say a 17-year-old Martinsville teen was in the passenger’s seat with Wolf. The arresting officer said he saw suspicious movements from the passenger side when he first saw the vehicle and reports that Wolf had exposed himself and that his nudity was visible from outside the car. Wolf’s vehicle was towed, and the girl was taken to her vehicle in a nearby parking lot. Wolf has been a coach at Martinsville High School for 25 years and he resigned following the charges.
Bed bugs found at hospital
(Indianapolis) — Indiana University health officials say bed bugs were found at Riley Hospital for Children last weekend. A family staying at the hospital after the birth of a newborn took photos of the small brownish oval shaped pests. Health experts say the bugs’ bites can cause redness and itching, but cannot transmit disease and are often transported in luggage and hide in mattresses, headboards and bedding. An IU spokesperson says they will work to make sure this is an isolated incident and will work closely with their infection control and environmental services department to resolve the issue in a timely manner.
More measles cases reported
(Indianapolis) — The Indiana State Department of Health Monday has announced six more measles cases, bringing the total of confirmed cases to ten since last week. All of the cases, which occurred in Boone and Hamilton Counties, are connected to the initial case, according to Indiana’s state health commissioner. One of the affected individuals visited the Super Bowl Village two days before the Super Bowl game prompting state health officials to notify health officials in New York and Massachusetts about the outbreak. No one has been hospitalized for the disease, but more cases will probably surface in the next few days.
Woman arrested in hit-and-run accident
(Indianapolis) — A motorist was arrested in a hit-and-run incident Monday which has left a man hospitalized in fair condition. Officers were called to the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and Ameriplex Parkway Sunday morning after receiving reports of a man lying in the street. Kenneth Stevenson, 29, was taken to Methodist Hospital. Police have arrested Elizabeeth Peel, 52, and have charged her with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.
Governor will not have to testify in IBM case
(Indianapolis) — The Indiana Supreme Court ruled yesterday that Governor Mitch Daniels will not have to testify in lawsuits regarding the state’s cancelled welfare-modernization contract with IBM. The state’s highest court overturned a Marion County judge’s December ruling ordering Daniels to testify. IBM claimed that Daniels should be ordered to give a statement to attorneys due to his internal knowledge of the terms of the $1.37 billion dollar deal with the Family and Social Services Administration. IBM filed suit over Daniels’ decision to cancel the 10-year contract in 2009 after three years due to complaints about the automated system.
Smoking ban fails to get needed votes
(Indianapolis) — An effort to override Mayor Greg Ballard’s veto of a comprehensive smoking ban failed to pass on a 16-20 vote. The council needed 20 votes to override Ballard’s veto. the mayor opposed the stricter ban because it did not exclude private clubs, including fraternal organizations like VFW posts. The ordinance would only allow smoking at clubs if they also prohibited minors from being inside. City-County Council president Maggie Lewis said the Democratic majority will wait to see if state lawmakers pass a statewide ban before introducing another proposal.
