Man faces felony charges over weapons possession

(Indianapolis) — An Indianapolis man is facing five felony charges this morning of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.  U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett announced the charges yesterday against Mark Luzar, 31. Luzar allegedly was found with four rifles and a shotgun in July 2011. He has six felony convictions in Marion County since 2001 and faces a total of 50 years in prison if convicted of all charges.

Shooting spree leaves one dead, 3 wounded

(Kokomo) — One man is in custody this morning after a series of shootings within a 24 hour time span. Turama Stitts, 36, of Kokomo is facing one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.  All four of the victims were shot in the head. Three of the shootings happened Thursday within minutes of each other.   Police believe Stitts was the lone gunman, but have not released a motive.  Argena Williams, 48, died from his wounds.

Mother blames bullying for her daughter’s death

(Indianapolis) — The mother of a Warren Central High School student who commited suicide is blaming bullying.  My’ell Nash, 15, died over the weekend and her mother says she was bulled by several other students, including being pushed down stairs.  School officials say they have no record of any incidents regarding bullying against the student and say they have a zero-tolerance policy for bullies.  A vigil will be held outside the Nash’s home tonight at 6 p.m.

Irsay responds to Payton Manning’s interview   

(Indianapolis) — Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay is not happy with recent comments made during an interview by his quarterback. The interview published this week in “The Indianapolis Star”  contains comments made by Payton Manning  about the current mood at the Colts complex following several firings, saying the atmosphere is not positive.  After introducing the team’s new coach yesterday, Irsay called Manning “a politician” and “I don’t think it’s in a good interest to paint the horseshoe in a negative light.”  Irsay said he’s disappointed Manning chose to air what he perceives to be problems within the franchise in public but said he and his star quarterback would work through their problems.

More street closures relating to Super Bowl 46 announced

(Indianapolis) — Starting today, more street restrictions and closings will take place due to Super Bowl 46.  Several streets are now closed, including Capitol Avenue from Maryland to South streets, Meridian Street from Maryland to Louisiana streets and from Washington Street to Monument Circle.  Other street closure information is available at indianapolissuperbowl.com.

Right to work legislation makes another step towards passage

(Indianapolis) — A final vote in the Indiana Senate is expected next week on  right to work legislation after the bill passed the Statehouse on Wednesday of this week. Although the Senate previously passed its own version, the House bill will be brought up and then sent on to Governor Mitch Daniels for his review. WISH-TV Channel 8 is reporting that Vice-President Biden tried to call House Minority Leader Pat Bauer on Tuesday of this week before the vote in the House to support a Democratic walkout, but Bauer refused to take the call and instead chose to be in session.
