Today is day number six of my ‘Hunger Strike” a “Fast for Peace.” An interesting thing is happening to me while I’m praying and fasting for peace during this hunger strike. I find myself listening and looking at the News a bit differently. I still want to know what’s happening with the Debt Ceiling and will the Country go broke, I still pay attention to sports to find out whats happening with the Lock-Outs, I still want to know just how hot it’s going to be today, but what has become most important to me is any news about violence in the community.
Like the shooting of a man stopped at an ATM yesterday, I don’t know what problem he might have had with the person that shot him, but again I ask, isn’t there another way? Can’t we resolve our problems without trying to kill one another? I’m praying that we can, and that’s what this Hunger Strike is all about. I’m just waiting for a newscast that is violence free! Imagine looking or listening to the news and there are no reports of shootings, stabbings or killings, or any violence of any kind! I know I’m not being realistic, but wouldn’t it be nice. Maybe the next time will be “Not This Time!” Peace.
