OK, I’m all for recycling, but this is getting out of hand. Have the creative folks in the film industry gotten lazy? Has all the real script writing talents disappeared? Why is Hollywood taking classic movies and remaking them? I guess we will never know the real answer.
Anyway, get ready for Sony Pictures to start production on one of my favorite 70’s classics “SPARKLE”. Do I sound excited? No? It’s because I’m not. Leave it alone. Create something new for us to devour. No matter what it will be compared to the original movie and besides the technology available today, that’s going to be next to impossible to beat.
On the other if Hollywood must reach back and remake movies, let me suggest they take a page from the “Karate Kid”. Clearly the overall plot is familiar, but the movie itself was wonderful different. Different country,language, culture etc. My only hope is that the writing and directing team, Mara and Salim Akil, (known for “Girlfriends” and “The Game”), watch the original Sparkle and proceed with the remake version accordingly.
