Parler, the destination for “unbiased social media” according to the app’s tagline, has become a haven for right-wing nutballs who believe Twitter and Facebook as it out for them. On Tuesday, the trending topic #ParlerHacked went wide with folks on Twitter blasting the alleged incident although the founder claims none of the rumors are true.

For those not in the know, Parler was created in 2018 as a counter to its larger competitors in the social media space where its founders John Matze and Jared Thomson hoped to craft a space where facts and claims can go unchecked and that propaganda can be hurled around with impunity. Prominent Republicans such as Sen. Ted Cruz and conservative talking heads like Dinesh D’Souza and Sean Hannity.

A screenshot image that’s been floating around of a WordPress backend used for the site has been connected with the alleged hack. Matze, who is Parler’s CEO, fired back to the claims in a statement writing, “The alleged “Parler hack” is a screenshot from a WordPress website that has been circulated repeatedly over the past 6 months, despite Parler’s multiple responses that we do not use WordPress products, nor WordPress databases.”

He continues in his statement, “All of our databases are hidden behind multiple layers of security and are not accessible via the web. This is an irresponsible rumor which uses a “techie” looking WordPress config file which is only capable of confusing a journalistic hack, not an actual hacker.”

Well, John, that may or may not be true but you’re gonna get these jokes today and Twitter has plenty. Check out the reactions below.
