The battle over Indianapolis’ smoking ban is over for now.  On Wednesday, a federal judge upheld the city’s ordinance that includes bars, bowling alleys and hotel rooms.  A group of bar owners filed for a preliminary injunction last year to stop the ban from being enforced.  They are expected to appeal the decision.

Researchers have genetically engineered mice that can’t feel cold. The scientists isolated and blocked receptors connected to nerves that respond to cold. The researchers say the aim is to eventually create drugs that can dull pain but not numb a patient’s other senses. A report on the research is in the “Journal of Neuroscience.”
