The trial outcome of George Floyd’s murderer was a relief – until it wasn’t. On the heels of the verdict, we now say the name of yet another young life viciously stolen by state violence: 16-year old Ma’Khia Bryant.

Many feel that Chauvin's guilty verdict could launch massive reform in policing across the country, but with the simultaneous killing of 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant, there is undoubtedly more work left to do.

Black communities cannot even enjoy a brief reprieve from police violence. Local reporters explained that many of the people who came outside as news of Ma'Khia's death began to circulate had been heading downtown in anticipation of the Chauvin verdict. 

As George Floyd's family celebrates Derek Chauvin's murder conviction, the fight for justice and broader demands of police accountability continue.

A Black family based in Louisville, Kentucky, recently launched a GoFundMe in an effort to escape their collective trauma as the result of a violent no-knock raid.

Mike Elliott, mayor of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, the Minneapolis suburb where Daunte Wright was killed by a police officer, called for cops to stop using pepper spray and other controversial non-violent methods.

Several members of Daunte Wright's family spoke out on Tuesday alongside other families who gained national prominence after losing a loved one to state sanctioned violence.

In the suit, Nigel Shelby's family claims their son's civil rights were violated prior to his death in 2019.

Facial recognition and biased data practices exist across multiple sectors. Algorithms and other technology can take on the flawed assumptions and biases inherent in society.

Stacey Abrams has been appointed to serve as co-chair of the Black Voices for Black Justice Fund.

Dr. Martin Tobin, a pulmonary specialist, used graphics and detailed descriptions to back up his medical assessment that Chauvin's use of force resulted in low oxygen levels that damaged Floyd's brain, causing his heart to stop.

The review comes as progressive lawmakers and various constituent groups call for the president to forgive up to $50,000 of student loan debt.
