DEKALB COUNTY, Ind.–A Dekalb County deputy, who also serves as a school resource officer at Garrett High School, has been charged with rape.

Indiana State Police say Zachary Kerley, 29, of Huntertown, was charged Friday and turned himself in shortly before noon.

An adult woman accused the deputy of rape, saying it happened in September of 2024. State Police declined to release any other information about the crime, but said it had nothing to do with Kerley’s duties as a school resource officer.

Whitley County Prosecuting Atty. D.J. Sigler requested the state police investigate. Sigler is the special prosecutor in the case. The trooper investigating found probable cause to support the accusation against Kerley.
