INDIANAPOLIS – Police say one person died after being shot during a chase Monday afternoon on Indy’s east side.
Police say this was an officer-involved shooting, but no officers were hurt.
Officers tried to stop a car on Pendleton Pike, which is near East 38th Street and North Shadeland Avenue after 4:00. The chase ended on East 30th Street between North Arlington Avenue and Shadeland Avenue.
The suspect vehicle ended up coming to a stop in the 6500 block of E. 30th Street. At least one Lawrence police officer and one IMPD police officer fired their service weapons at the suspect’s vehicle.
IMPD said once SWAT arrived, officers approached the vehicle and found one person dead inside the vehicle.
Around 4:30 Monday afternoon, police said people should stay away from the area, as it is not safe to be around. Before 5:00 though, they consider it safe to be around that area again.
This is the 17th officer-involved shooting in 2024, four of which happened in December.
