Comedian and DC native Dave Chappelle will be awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this year. Kennedy Center President Deborah Rutter called Chappelle “the embodiment of Mark Twain’s observation that ‘against the assault of humor, nothing can stand.'” After performing stand-up for several years, Chappelle developed the hit sketch comedy show “The Chappelle Show” in 2003. Chappelle celebrated his 30th year in comedy by releasing several stand-up specials on Netflix recently. The prize will be awarded at a Kennedy Center gala on October 27th.
