March 21st is the anniversary of Selena, the 1997 biopic created the star that we now know as Jennifer Lopez as well as cemented Selena’s legacy after her tragic 1995 death.

Lopez opened up to Entertainment Tonight about the challenges she faced while filming the biopic, “To prepare, I did spend time with Selena’s family, her sister, Suzette, her mother and father, I met her husband Chris and brother A.B., and they were all really helpful. I actually spent a weekend with Suzette at her house in Corpus Christi.”

Lopez said that mastering Selena’s accent and performing at her level was really hard but she spent time with Selena’s sister, Suzette for a weekend in Corpus Christi in order to “vibe” with the family.

Selena’s legacy is continuing as Netflix is planning on releasing Selena: The Series and Forever 21 has just announced Selena The White Rose collection, inspired by Selena’s quotes, lyrics, and images.
