A Comic book legend has left us.

Stan Lee, the co-creator  of heroes like Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men was rushed to the hospital from his Hollywood Hills home this morning where TMZ had reported that’s where he passed away. Lee has battled several illnesses recently including pneumonia. He was 95.

Back in 1939, Lee got his start in comic books at Timely Comics, which later became Marvel Comics. He was known for his work with Jack Kirby on Fantastic Four, helped revive Captain America, and created the first African-American superhero named Falcon in the 1960’s. Lee created Spider-Man with Steve Ditko, which later became one of Marvel’s best-selling titles. He was also Marvel’s publisher, the public face of the company, and is known for his catchphrase, “Excelsior!” Lee is known for his cameos in almost all of the Marvel Universe live-action movies.
