(Los Angeles, CA) – Legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Pop music icon George Clinton announced today that he plans to retire from touring in May of 2019. Clinton, who turns 77 this July, is most noted as producer/frontman of Parliament – Funkadelic, whose classic recordings and legendary stage performances served to establish Funk music as a popularly accepted musical genre.
Clinton recently underwent a procedure to have a pacemaker placed in his chest but stresses that the surgery did not factor in his decision to come off the road next year.
“This has been coming a long time,” he states. “Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years have noticed that I’ve been out front less and less. The shows have been great!”
“Truth be told it’s never really been about me,” he continues. “It’s always been about the music and the band. That’s the real P-Funk legacy. They’ll still be funkin long after I stop.”
Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic have over 50 dates scheduled between now and New Year’s, including performances in Europe and Japan. www.georgeclinton.com
In January, Clinton created music news with the release of “I’m Gon Make You Sick O’Me (feat. Scarface)” the first Parliament single in 38 years. The track with it’s classic sound will appear on the forthcoming album “Medicaid Fraud Dog” due later this year.
