The Indianapolis Metro Police Department gets a new chief. He’s Bryan Roach. He replaces former Chief Troy Riggs, who stepped down last month. Chief Roach is a 26-year veteran of IMPD and most recently served as assistant chief of administration. Roach in a press conference on Wednesday before city leaders and others told the press his priorities include protection of the city, building passionate relationships of trust, finding simple solutions to complex problems and making sure people aren’t unnecessarily pushed into the criminal system.

A major thoroughfare on the city’s southwest side shut down because of an accident is open again. All northbound lanes of I-465 reopened Wednesday. They were closed Tuesday after a car crusher on a semi malfunctioned, causing it to become too tall and collide with the Rockville Road overpass. INDOT says the bridge has two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane open to traffic.

He revealed on Wednesday that he had met with officials of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team to discuss possible senior-level positions. In a statement after the meeting, Ballard said he was “deeply impressed” by the professionalism and knowledge of the people in the room and looks forward to further conversations.
