Now that we’ve taken the time to address the hair shaming in our community that my girls with relaxers experience, I want to show my relaxed hair queens some more love. As we know, you can have healthy hair with a relaxer and I am here to tell you how. I want your hair to be the best it can be and with these easy tips, your hair will be the healthiest of them all.
You need to trim your ends every 4-6 weeks
Many women go months even a year (yes, really!) without getting those ends cut. This is a big NO NO. I know the resentment that most women have towards getting their hair cut off, but if you want your hair to grow and be healthy a timely trim is the major key. You need to trim your ends every 4-6 weeks. So many women go months even a year without getting those ends cut. This is a big NO NO. I know the resentment that most women have towards getting their hair cut off, but if you want your hair to grow and be healthy a timely trim is the major key.
Deep condition your hair every 2 weeks
This is something a lot of women fail to do as well. As we all know relaxers can dry out your hair so taking the time to deep condition your hair bi-weekly will definitely add life back into your tresses.
Too much heat is killing your hair
If you haven’t heard it yet, I’m here to tell you to fall back from all the unnecessary heat you are putting on your hair. If you are that girl that is still relaxing your hair then blow-drying it on high followed by even more heat from your flat iron, you are heading for self-destruction. There are so many styles, nighttime routines, and products you can utilize to maintain your fly look without adding additional heat to already straighten hair
TAKE YOUR TIME
Try to go an extra week or two between touchups
This is important because you can not wait too long to get your touch up because you may experience breakage. But you also do not want to get your touchups done too soon. Many women are rushing back into the salon the second they see the a little bit of new growth and they are over processing their hair. This a major cause of hair damage and breakage. Try going an extra week or 2 between your relaxers to see a change in your hair’s health.
Hair care tips from all types of hair can also help you
Whether you are natural or relaxed, healthy hair is the key. So you need to listen to one another because you may learn something new. There are so many hairstyle and hair care tips that work for all hair types and textures but you may be letting labels prevent you from learning how to have healthy hair.
THE RIGHT STUFF
Make sure you are using the right products for your hair
Far too often women go to the beauty supply store and just grab anything. You need to read the label thoroughly and don’t be hooked by a product just because it’s made by a brand you know and love. I always tell my clients and girlfriends don’t be afraid to try something new. Nowadays you have so many options you need to find the products that are right for you and your hairs health.
So there you have it: your go-to guide for your relaxed hair to be its healthiest. I can guarantee that if you follow these tips you will notice a difference in your hair. Let us know if you do try any of these tips and how it works for you. We always love hearing from our beauties, tag us on Instagram @HelloBeautiful or @ us on Twitter!
