“Kim’s Tuesday News & Sports Headlines”

It’s Super Tuesday as Democrat and Republican voters head to the polls for the presidential primaries in key battleground “winner take all” delegate states of Florida; our neighbors to the east and west, Ohio and Illinois; Missouri; and North Carolina. Today could be the exit out of the race for losing candidates on the GOP side. Are you registered and ready to vote in our Indiana primary on May 3?

Police are looking for a gunman who tried to convince a home owner he needed help before pulling a gun. Investigators say it happened late last night in Zionsville, with the gunman telling the home owner his car had broken down.  At some point the man attacked the home owner and shot him in the leg before running off.

Indianapolis metro police are still trying to determine who gunned down an Indianapolis mother of five early Monday morning outside her northwest side home. The victim is Nerva Singleton. She was arriving back home just after 3:30 a.m. and that’s when her children inside were awakened by the sound of gunshots in the 5600 block of Dobbs Ferry Drive. When they looked out the window, they believe they saw a light colored Ford Taurus speeding away. They then found their 40-year-old mother shot on the front stairs of the home, which is where she died. If you have any info about Singleton’s murder, call Crime Stoppers. You can do so anonymously at 317-262-TIPS.

A six-year-old little boy mauled by a dog is recovering from his first round of reconstructive surgery at Riley Hospital for Children.  Officials say he was attacked Sunday evening. The child had to have surgery to repair severe damage done to his ears and face. The dog’s owners voluntarily surrendered the pitbull to Indianapolis Animal Care and Control. Due to the severity of the bites, the dog will likely be put down when the dog’s fate is decided.

An IPS principal at the center of a firestorm is no longer on the job. Mark Cosand has resigned from his position at Positive Supports Academy. Cosand is one of six IPS officials accused of failing to immediately notify the Department of Child Services when they learned about a possible sexual assault case. Court documents indicate that they knew of allegations of an inappropriate relationship between counselor Shana Taylor and a student on February 17, but didn’t report it to DCS until February 23.
