Dozens of hostages have been freed after armed gunmen stormed Hotel Splendid, a hotel in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, and killed at least 20 people.
According to the BBC, Splendid Hotel, car bombs were exploded outside before the men entered a coffee shop near the hotel, where “several people” were killed.
Communications Minister Remis Dandjinou tweeted that 33 people were in the hospital receiving treatment. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb reportedly claimed to be behind the attack.
Initial reports claimed that 33 people were released; new information puts that’s number at 63, 30 people were uninjured.
According to eyewitnesses, gunfire was exchanged between the men and security at Hotel Splendid, a 4-star hotel near the country’s international airport.
