Today, Sandra Bland’s family returned to court for a status hearing on their wrongful death case on behalf of the Prairie View A&M University graduate.
Bland first caught headlines earlier this summer when she died in a Texas jail cell after being arrested by Texas Trooper Brian Encinia during a traffic stop. Though it is alleged that she commit suicide, many believe that Bland was the victim of foul play.
The hearing was held in downtown Houston at approximately 2 pm as supporters gathered outside of the courthouse.
Senior Judge David Hittner will be hearing arguments for the case’s discovery motions; he’ll also set a trial date.
In Waller County, there will soon be a decision on whether there will be charges against Encinia and his department for Bland’s arrest and resulting death.
