UPDATE (12:34 P.M.) There are now conflicting reports on the condition of the alleged TV crew shooter in Virginia.

Police officials first told media the man suspected of shooting and killing a Virginia television news crew this morning on live TV was dead after shooting himself. We’re now learning that he’s still being treated for extreme injuries sustained after crashing his vehicle while being pursued by police and a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man identified by authorities as Vester Flanagan was tweeting that the TV reporter he shot –Alison Parker– had made racist comments. Vester also went by the name “Bryce Williams” and was a former employee of the Roanoke TV station where the dead reporter and cameraman worked, WBDJ. Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were both fatally shot this Wednesday morning during a live broadcast at a shopping center in their local area. Police have scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m. Eastern today to discuss details of their investigation.
