The Arizona Cardinals are breaking a barrier in the NFL by adding a female coach to their staff for the 2015 preseason.  The Cardinals have hired Jen Welter, who coached the Texas Revolution in the Indoor Football League.  Welter is believed to be the first woman to hold a coaching position of any kind in the league.  She joins Arizona as a training camp/preseason intern coaching inside linebackers.  The 37-year-old also holds a master’s degree in sport psychology and a PhD in psychology.  Welter played rugby at Boston College, and has played women’s football at several levels.  The NFL added its first full-time female official this season in Sarah Thomas.
