Famed “The American Dream” wrestler Dusty Rhodes has passed away at the age of 69, according to a recent press release from the WWE.

Rhodes, whose given name was Virgil Runnels Jr., was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996 after winning the National Wrestling Alliance’s World Heavyweight Championship three times throughout his career. The longtime entertainer is survived by four children, two of whom, wrestlers “Goldust” and “Stardust,” are signed to WWE themselves.

“Runnels became a hero to fans around the world thanks to his work ethic, his impassioned interviews and his indomitable spirit,” the WWE’s statement reads. “Moreover, Runnels was a dedicated father to WWE Superstars Goldust (Dustin Runnels) and Stardust (Cody Runnels), a caring husband and a creative visionary who helped shape the landscape of WWE long after his in-ring career had ended.”

WWE’s Executive Vice President and longtime professional wrestler Triple H shared the news on Twitter earlier today.

Watch Dusty Rhodes call out fellow wrestler Ric Flair and lament over “hard times” in an interview from 1985 below.
