The 500 Festival Parade gets underway Saturday at Noon featuring the legendary 1955 Crispus Attucks champion basketball team as “Grand Marshals.” Click the link to read more about this historic move. On Sunday, it’s the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 at 12:15 p.m. at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Gates open at 6:00 a.m. Scott Dixon is the pole-sitter.

Now if your young people want something else to do on Saturday…

A local organization focused on empowering and uplifting youth in our African-American community is hosting an event focused on Stopping Social Media Warfare during this busy holiday weekend. Project Y.O.U., Jesse Muhammad and the “Twitter Army” are holding a conference on Saturday at Ivy Tech College’s downtown campus in room 101 of the IFC building. Festivities get underway at Noon and a seminar for youth and young adults begins at 2 p.m. Organizers say this event is designed to help the city’s youth better deal with the social media distraction in their lives. For more info about the free youth conference contact the organizers at projectyoustaff@yahoo.com or 773-656-8932.
