A wild day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday delivered a dramatic crash with three-time Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves in his Team Penske car taking flight and flipping nose over end. Castroneves walked away from the crash uninjured and ready to go in his back-up car, however Thursday morning, we’ve learned, indycar.com is reporting that IndyCar officials have penalized Castroneves eight points in the series championship standings for another accident that happened Saturday during the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis. In that crash at the IMS, officials say he had avoidable contact and caused others to have an incident on the track.
