Six people are now safe after a raging fire broke out in their north side home early Friday morning. Indianapolis Fire Department crews fought blaze in the 5700 block of Coburn Avenue around 5:45 a.m. A family of five plus a teenaged guest escaped through both the side doors of the home and the windows after the smoke detectors worked properly and alerted them. The parents told IFD that a friend had been working on electrical issues inside the home earlier, though the cause has not been confirmed. The damages total around $60,000 and the Red Cross has stepped in to help with emergency shelter.
