Oprah Winfrey, along with Selma director Ava DuVernay , David Oyelowo  and Common will all participate in a march in Selma, Alabama to pay tribute to the birthday of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr on Sunday. The event will pay homage to King’s contribution to the voting rights protests of 1965 in Selma, which is the subject of the film and his civil rights leadership. According to Paramount studios, they will also hold two free screenings of the movie on Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr Day.  The event is slated kick off all day on Sunday with Democratic Rep. Terri Sewell, the only black member of Alabama’s congressional delegation to moderate a panel discussion at Selma High School.

According to the press release, the celebration of King will start with Terri’s q&a session, then will following with Selma Mayor George Evans speaking at the community center at Selma City Hall. Later, Dion Culliver of Tabernacle Baptist Church and Rev. Leodis Strong of Brown AME Chapel will welcome attendees with a prayer. Afterwards  the filmmakers and cast will proceed with a commemorative march to the Edmund Pettus Bridge. In a released statement, Mayor Evans remarked about the upcoming events:

I’m honored that Paramount Pictures and the cast has put Selma to the forefront of the nation again during MLK weekend. The dream marches on.

Indeed it does.
