According to the suit, filed Wednesday:

“The death of this joyful, loving, unarmed 37-year-old woman in the midst of a mental health crisis is part of the pattern and practice of excessive force by Cleveland Police Division (CPD) officers recently documented by a Department of Justice (DOJ) Investigative report.”

On November 13th, Anderson’s family members repeatedly called police saying the Mother was causing a disturbance. During the second call, they gave officers permission to take the 37-year-old — who was bipolar and schizophrenic — to St. Vincent Charity Medical Center for mental evaluation.

However, when Officers Scott Aldridge and Bryan Myers tried taking Anderson to their patrol car, she allegedly began kicking them.

The lawsuit maintains that Anderson “became anxious and scared due to her mental state. The officers then screamed at her and pushed on her and then slammed her to the ground and put pressure on her back while handcuffing her.”

At this point, Anderson stopped breathing, the suit adds.

On Friday, a Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide via “sudden death associated with physical restraint in a prone position.”

In addition, the suit claims Aldridge and Myers “delayed” in calling paramedics, did not provide Anderson medical assistance, and left her half-naked body publicly exposed.

The city has not commented on the allegations, saying in an e-mail that it doesn’t comment on pending litigation.
