12/17/14 –

Dear Tom,

My name is Z. Melody Hill and I have proudly served my country as both a Military Reservist in the Air Force and with my work at the Department of Homeland Security; securing our borders through Immigration & Customs Enforcement.   In June of this year, my husband and I found out I was pregnant after trying for 4 years.  At the time, I was performing my Reservist Annual Tour of Duty at an Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, when I became very sick due to my pregnancy and put on bed rest for 3 months.   Since, I was unable to perform my military duty because of my condition, it was determined that I would not be entitled to receive pay or lodging entitlement.

As a result, I was stuck in Florida with no money, very little food, and I eventually had to apply for Food Stamps and Medicaid.  In October, I was finally cleared by my physician to travel home to South Carolina.   Last month, I had to beg my doctor to take me off bed rest, so I could return to work, because I had fallen behind on all of my bills and exhausted all my savings.

The baby is due in early March, however there are problems that put my health at great risk and my pelvic bone is broken and separated. The bigger she gets, the more “broken and separated” I become.  There is a strong possibility that the baby will need to be taken much earlier.  We all pray that she holds out until at least January when she will be 8 months along.

It is my Christmas Wish to ask for your help to get ready for my infant.  I would be so grateful if you can lend a hand so I can get her nursery ready with all the wonderful baby gear she needs.
