Dear Tom,
My mom migrated to New York City from Jamaica back in 1983. my grandmother took care of my 2 sisters and me while my mother worked 2 to 3 jobs at a time – not only to make ends meet for herself…but to also send money back to her mother to raise us.
In 2001 my mom decided to leave New York City and moved to Florida – starting all over with just the clothes on her back with no relatives for support or a job. Eventually, one by one, she brought us to America – my 2 sisters, my grandmother and me.
I came to live with her in 2001 at the age of 17. We shared a very small apartment. I hardly got to see her because she was always working just to accommodate us. I noticed how hard she had it, but never once did she complain. She was just happy to have us all together with a fresh start.
I don’t know how she does it, but she still works two jobs, she works at an assisted living facility as a CNA by day and at night – she works at target. She also serves as an usher in her church and loves spending the 6 grandbabies my sisters and i have blessed her with: 3 boys and 3 girls.
I love my mom and enjoy showing her off. She is the most selfless, loving, caring and faithful person i know. She has never been to a spa and I am sure she could use a good pampering.
