According to the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, researchers studied the difference between racial labels. The researchers came up with that the label ‘black’ represents a person who has a low socioeconomic status rather than the label ‘African-American’.

“The racial label ‘black’ evokes a mental representation of a person with lower socioeconomic status than the racial label ‘African-American.’”

These studies are based on what white people feel and they further explained that the racial label ‘African-American’ is more acceptable than the  term ‘black’ and vice versa for black people. This will forever be an ongoing debate and many like Raven Symone would prefer that no labels be attached to them.
