kingsley19n-1-webA Michigan fifth-grader, who came to school on Monday packing a .25-caliber handgun, had complied a hit list of those kids he wanted to hurt, according to Traverse City Record-Eagle.

The boy, who has yet to be identified, attended Kingsley Middle School  and he reportedly came to the educational facility with the gun tucked into his waistband, according to authorities.  The child told law enforcement that he had no intention of hurting any of his classmates and also did not threaten anyone.  He confessed how he had taken the gun from his grandfather on September 12 and offered varying twists to the stories he recanted to police as to why he brought the weapon to school.

The child apparently had not been honest with the officers who questioned him.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle states that one of the boy’s teachers reportedly stumbled upon a disturbing piece of evidence that she shared with authorities.  The educator found a list of seven first names scrawled behind a homework assignment that had been turned in by the boy.  The list of names clued in officers as to the child’s real intention which was to possibly harm these classmates.

According to Kingsley Area Schools Superintendent Keith Smith who turned the list of names over to police, “It’s obviously not consistent with what was brought to school,” Smith said. “A gun with one bullet doesn’t line up with a list of names, but you’ve still got to take it seriously. That’s why we turned it over to police,” the educator told Traverse City Record-Eagle.

Investigators contacted the parents of the children believed to be on the list.

Meanwhile, the boy has been suspended from school for ten days but this punishment can lead to expulsion, after school board members meet to decide if the child had a criminal premeditative intent to harm other students.  Grand Traverse county prosecutor are also debating whether to request charges of carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a pistol in a gun-free zone.

The case is still being investigated.
