Officials at Howard University are facing a backlash from students after the announcement that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will deliver the commencement speech for this year’s graduating class. University President Wayne Frederick confirmed on Tuesday that the hip-hop mogul is due to return to the Washington, D.C. college where he studied in the late 1980s to pick up an honorary degree.

The news of Diddy’s speech has irked some members of the university community who are upset about the choice of speaker because Combs failed to graduate.

Many students have taken to Twitter to voice their opposition to the decision to allow a college dropout give the prestigious address. Combs will follow in the footsteps of previous commencement speakers including former President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and poet Maya Angelou.
