Carjacking Suspect Fatally Shot By Police Officers

A man was fatally shot by police after an attempted carjacking early this morning on the city’s south side.

Around 1 a.m., 911 dispatchers sent police to the 2500 block of Shelby Street on reports of a carjacking.

Detectives said a man tried to rob a woman sitting in her car. When she resisted, the man pulled a gun and shot through her back window before running away.

K-9 officer tracked the suspect hiding in an alley about a block away.

When police ordered the suspect to surrender, officers said he pointed his gun at them. Police shot the suspect and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect’s identity was not immediately released and the officers involved in the shooting are under investigation.

 

Drug Suspect Dies During Arrest

New This Morning, A suspect in a drug investigation died when he was taken into custody yesterday evening.

Undercover drug officers were called to the 2200 block of Station Street at 8 last night.

An unidentified male, who was the target of the investigation, took off running from officers when they tried to arrest him.

Authorities did use a taser on the subject after he resisted arrest.

Police said the suspect became unresponsive after he was eventually taken into custody. The suspect was pronnounced dead on the scene.

Police said they believed the suspect could have possibly swallowed an unknown drug during the incident.

 

STATE FAIR ATTENDANCE UP 12%

Attendance at this year’s Indiana State Fair is up 12-percent.  Fair officials say the mild weather is responsible for the bigger crowd.  The state fair runs through August 18th.

 

IPS Bus Involved In Crash Thursday

Dispatchers say a school bus with children on board crashed yesterday afternoon near West 30th Street and Lafayette Road.

IMPD said a passenger car and an SUV were headed in opposite directions on 30th Street… when one vehicle turned in front of the other. That pushed the other vehicle into the school bus.

Officials say the bus was carrying seven children, none of whom were injured in the wreck.

Officers said an uninjured pregnant driver of the passenger car was taken to the hospital, just as a precaution.

In all 2 cars and a bus were involved and not much damage was done to the bus.
