Shavonnte Taylor could have never imagined in a bazillion years that one day she would deliver her own baby on a Washington, D.C., metro transit platform. Well, she did! The 23-year-old Mom gave birth to an 8-pound, 5-ounce boy at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday morning, according to NBC 4.

Taylor reportedly felt her labor pangs kick in full effect as she stepped on to a Green Line platform.  According to Saa Alpha, the station manager at the always bustling L’Enfant Plaza station, he heard Taylor yell, “I’m having my baby!”  The transit employee went on to state that Taylor then, “Popped right out like she was a quarterback.”

An EMT worker who had also been a passenger on the train disembarked and helped Alpha to deliver Taylor’s baby boy.  Another passenger even took off his shirt and handed it over to help cover the new Mom and another stranger offered hand sanitizer as a disinfectant.

Alpha, who was still reeling after witnessing the live birth, told NBC 4, “I’ve never seen anything like it, a baby being born, not even my own children,” Alpha stated.

The young woman told NBC 4 that her birth took place in just 10 minutes.

Taylor and her brand-new bundle of joy were transported to a nearby hospital and both Mom and son are reportedly doing fine. Taylor, who spoke to News 4 on the eve of her delivery, revealed that her son, whom she named, Amir-Mason Taylor (pictured), was actually her fourth child.

Amir-Mason Taylor was ironically born just one day before Pierre L’Enfant’s birthday, the architect of Washington, D.C., and the namesake of the famed metro station.

Taylor’s birth garnered her a $100 SmarTrip card from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and a congratulatory letter to boot from metro’s general manager, Richard Sarles:

Congratulations on the birth of your son!” Sarles wrote in a handwritten note. “I am sure that the delivery did not go exactly as you had imagined, but I hope that our employees and customers who assisted you were a source of support and comfort. Please accept the enclosed SmarTrip card worth $100 in Metro fare… as our gift.
